Natural Health Doctor Prescribes Outdoor Exercise

Posted by admin February - 1 - 2014 - Saturday Comments Off

Want more consistent exercise for your natural health?

The primary reason why people give up on exercise is boredom. I advocate fun and exciting outdoor activities like biking, hiking, canoeing, fishing, and hunting. Not only are these great exercise, and a wonderful component of natural health, but the fresh air and sunshine provide added benefit.

Many of you have asked for more stories of my outdoor adventures. Here is the brief and true description about one of my hunting outings in Wisconsin.

Hunting whitetail deer is natural health exercise

Pre-season scouting revealed only a track or two and no scrapes, rubbings, nor trail cam pictures to drool over. The gun-deer season had been a depressing lack of sightings. The last drive on the last day felt like walking through wet concrete. But then it happened; first I saw a tree branch wiggle– just the wind I thought. I heard a twig snap – nah just a squirrel, I sniveled.  Next I heard rustling of leaves – dang turkeys! But my pulse quickened and my body tensed as I noticed the brown body of a deer, the flicking white tail, and a tall 11 point rack of glory.  Trouble was it all happened in a flash with the deer leaping full stride directly at me just 25 yards away!  I quickly pulled up the 12 gauge, saw brown in the sights and let the slug fly right between the eyes for a humane harvest.

As a natural health doctor and author for 30 years, I prescribe outdoor exercise as a vital component of wellness. Hunting wild game humanely provides a wonder source of organic meat.

Milwaukee Area Motivational Holistic Health Speaker at Conferences and Conventions

Posted by admin October - 16 - 2011 - Sunday Comments Off

Milwaukee area Holistic health speakers like myself teach wellness and prevention. My unique topic is called After God, Humor is the Best Medicine. I combine concepts of natural and holistic health with funny pictures and stories gathered from my 25 years as a busy holistic family doctor and chiropractor. I’m known as a motivational speaker about alternative medicine. I also present corporate workplace wellness programs.

I use about a dozen funny pictures. Here is one I like to show:

I especially like to speak and present my programs at Christian conferences and conventions. I most recently did so at the CEO Fearless Faith Workshop  (http://ceo-ministries.org/) near Milwaukee Wisconsin. Public speaking is one of the ways I enjoy helping people.

Many people call me The Down to Earth Doctor because of my ability to teach in an easy-to-understand and practical manner. So I strive to share information about health and wellness that my audience and their families can put to use immediately with little or no cost.

Ultimately, my goal is to empower people to take more personal responsibility for their wellbeing, so they can be less dependent on the high cost and risk of the conventional health care system (it’s really a sickness care system).

The best doctor is really the one inside of us, the one we’re blessed with by God. Our bodies  have an incredible self healing ability. They key to real optimum health is to give our inner doctor what it needs to do it’s job.   It’s quite simple once one learns how. It’s the “how” that I teach.

Here is one more of the funny pictures I enjoy sharing as a wellness speaker:

May God bless you and your family with whole health,

Logo Design Contest for The Down to Earth Doctor

Posted by admin September - 13 - 2011 - Tuesday Comments Off

Help! I need a clever logo.

I’ve been a full-time holistic lifestyle advocate for nearly 3 years. I’m known world-wide as The Down to Earth Doctor; and I’ve got nothing to show for it – in the form of a logo that is. LOL!

Increasingly, as I’m requested to be a speaker at public events like health fairs, doctor’s conferences, work-place wellness programs, and conventions, participate in radio and television interviews, and asked to be an author for articles and books, I’m asked to provide my logo. It’s about time I get one.

So, I’m asking for your assistance in designing one. And I’m happy to reward you for your efforts. All those who submit an entry will receive a free digital copy of my book Whole Health Healing: The Budget Friendly Natural Wellness Bible for All Ages. The designer who’s logo is chosen to be used, the winner, will receive $75.00 and an autographed copy.

Healing book

To keep this legal, I must state that I reserve the right to reject any or all entrants, all submissions become my property, each person may submit a maximum of 3 original designs, and it’s open to all ages. The deadline for submissions is 12/1/2011.

Now here is some help. I’m branded and known as The Down to Earth Doctor for 2 reasons:

#1) I live very holistically. For example, I raise much of my own food by gardening and farming organically. I have chickens, pigs, and turkeys. My family (wife and 3 kids) get lots of outdoor physical activity by bicycling, hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, etc. We use natural methods of real health care like chiropractic, eating wholesome food, prayer and spiritual growth, and lifetime learning (the real definition of health is optimal mental, spiritual, and physical wellbeing).

#2) I’m told I have a talent for teaching in a very conversational. easy-going, and practical manner. Although this also means I sometimes talk like a country bumpkin and say things like “yah-hey”. LOL!

Also, it may help you to understand what a full-time holistic lifestyle advocate is. My mission is to empower people to make wiser lifestyle decisions, particularly regarding their health. I help people minimize their health care expenses and decrease their dependence on traditional medical care. I say we need more self-care much more than we need more health care.

I also love to say that the only thing man ever really cured is a ham. LOL! By this I mean that our bodies are for the most part self healing and self regulating. We’ve each been gifted with our own internal doctor by God.  The key to optimal wellbeing is to give that inner doctor what it needs to do its job. Yah-hey!

You can learn even more details about me by reading my previous posts on this website.

So there you are. You may submit your design electronically via email to tpotisk@aol.com, or send it in to Dr Tom Potisk, PO Box 11, Caledonia, WI 53108.

Best of luck and may God bless you and your family with whole health,

Dr Tom Potisk

Vacations: 6 Secrets to Make Yours Extraordinary

Posted by admin July - 9 - 2011 - Saturday Comments Off

Sorry about my lag in blog posts. I was on another extraordinary vacation.

Here I'm in Budapest enjoying the local public spa.

You might wonder why a health and wellness specialist and author like me is writing about vacations? You’ll be pleased to find out that I recognize and prescribe vacations as a vital component of wellness. (And the crowds went wild LOL!)

I’m not kidding. During my 25 years as a busy holistic family doctor near Milwaukee, Wisconsin I observed the necessity for more people to have more rest, especially in the form of vacations. Many illnesses are caused at least in part by stress, or an over-burdened lifestyle.

With my boys and Dog on the Deerskin River in Wisconsin

Now before you begin planning to lead a sedentary lifestyle on the couch for the rest of your life, know that it is equally important to do meaningful fulfilling work that you are passionate about, and dedicate yourself to it. But still, regularly disconnecting with vacations needs to be sprinkled in for rejuvenation of body, mind, and spirit.

So here are several of my suggestions that can make your vacation extraordinary.

#1) I’ve noticed that if people take vacations regularly, then the lazy, non-stimulating type of vacations get boring fast. So go places and do things that are educational, exciting, and adventurous.  For example, I once rented a motor home in Rome, Italy and criss-crossed the country.

Here I'm overlooking a Lake in the Alps.

#2) You don’t want to come home being 5 pounds heavier, so partake in some physical activity each day. Whenever I go somewhere I’m always on the lookout for places to canoe, hike, and bike.

Hiking in Bohemia

#3) Another necessity to keep your physique in check is to control your eating. By all means sample the local cuisine,  but keep some self control such as being sure to eat a big salad everyday just as I consistently recommend. If you travel overseas you’ll notice how particularly healthier the food choices tend to be, especially breakfast. For example, when I was in Poland I was served radishes for breakfast. In France, I ordered an omelet and it came with a salad. Try it and I bet you’ll like it.

#4) Go with the mindset that no matter what happens it will be a great trip. Make the best of whatever the situation. Bad weather, travel delays, and getting lost are to be expected. You can’t lose with an attitude like that. My wife and I were robbed by a taxi driver in Istanbul and we still laugh about it.

With my wife hiking the Lycean trail on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey.

#5) Learn some of the local history. Every location has fascinating stories associated with it and they will provide considerable depth to your visit. Do a bit of research before you go, buy a guidebook, or ask the locals. My wife and I delight in taking guided walking tours of the major cities we visit. Most of them have been free.

#6) Take at least some risk. Some of my most memorable experiences came from dropping my guard a little. For instance, I was once driving across Montana and saw an interesting looking side road. I decided to take it even though I had no idea where it went. Within a few miles I stumbled upon the fascinating  site of Custer’s last stand. That was really cool.

There are endless places to go that will provide a lifetime of stimulating adventures.

My colleagues teasingly call me a “vacation expert” because of the many fabulous trips I’ve logged. So I wrote an article for doctors called How to Take More Vacations Without Disrupting Your Practice. The article is available for free on my other website specifically for doctors – http://www.reclaimthejoy.com.

I’m Dr Tom Potisk wishing you Happy Trails!
