Women’s health and wellness can be complicated.
I recently was the featured speaker at a wonderful Women’s group in Greendale, WI called A Woman’s Journey. My topic was 4 Steps to Optimum Health, Naturally.
It was a lovely meeting of bright and intelligent women. Since it was all women, I was able to share a secret about getting control of men. This produced a lot of laughs! I made them all promise to never repeat the secret because I could get in a lot of trouble if men found out. LOL! If you would like to know you’ll have to hire me as a speaker.
I then proceeded to the 4 tips using my custom made PowerPoint presentation. Here they are:
#1: Do it for God. Yep God. Surprising isn’t it? I base my advice on Biblical scripture such as 1st Corinthians 6:19,20 – Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. And Romans 12:1 -Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
My point is that it’s both an honor and a higher calling for all of us to take optimum care of our bodies. And that God has gifted each and every one of us with incredible self healing abilities. Dr Albert Schweitzer, the famous missionary doctor and Nobel prize winner had this to say about it “Each patient carries his own doctor within him. We are at our best when we give the doctor that resides within each patient the chance to go to work.” Don’t disregard this valuable gift!
#2 Eat more wholesome foods. This does not mean you’ll have to eat bird seed! A few simple changes go along way. Examples include choosing whole grains over white/processed wheat, increasing one’s intake of fruits and vegetables, seeking fresher more organically grown produce, and even striving to eat more slowly. I advise eating a big salad every day, perhaps even making a meal out of it by adding some quality protein to it like walnuts, oily fish, beans, or lean meat. #3 Get more physical. I advise striving for at least one-half hour of fun physical activity every day. And mix it up with a variety of activities so you use different muscle groups. The primary reason people stop exercising is boredom so that’s another reason to have several choices. #4 Structural alignment. I call this “the missing link” in health care. It’s overlooked by most patients and doctors. I’m referring to the vital importance of the alignment of one’s bones and joints, particularly the joints of the spine. This is crucial because mis-alignment of the spine causes irritation and pinching of the nervous system, the master communication system of the body. Optimum health is dependent upon a free flowing nervous system. Chiropractors are the experts in this field. Every one needs a Doctor of Chiropractic on their health care team. So the ladies loved it, especially when I shared stories about my experiences as a holistic family doctor for over 25 years. I’ve helped people from a few days old up to 103. These days I’m a full time advocate of the benefits of holistic living.
